screening in delhi

Little Asifa, is from a mandal near the river town East Godavari, India.

Asifa developed strabismus, a condition that caused her eyes to look in two different directions when focusing.

She was too young to realize that her blurred vision was a symptom that can occur in 1 and 20 children.

She began to struggle in her school work. Reading no longer became a way to discover new things but a discouragement. Her confidence and personality changed. She wasn’t the bright bubbly girl anymore. She became worried and upset.

In June of this year, Goutami Eye Institute conducted an eye screening camp at an RTC complex in Kovvur. Asifa’s parents are factory workers in the city near by. When they heard about the bus coming to the area they arranged for Asifa to visit. They knew the camp was free and could help their daughter as she often complained of blurred vision.

Children deserve vision for life

After receiving a vision screening- Asifa was diagnosed with squint. She was told that a 1 hour surgery with myotome could restore her vision.

Worried about finances her mother wasn’t sure she could afford the procedure. The staff assured her that she needn’t worry, the procedure would be completely free.

Today, Asifa’s vision is restored. She now has a chance at a productive life just like all the other children with healthy vision. Thanks to one $200 donation from our Vision Ambassadors, Asifa received a Vision Saving Surgery. Today her vision is THRIVING and so is she.
