Vision Screenings and Surgeries
Prevention
We want to reach children early on so their vision stays in focus during the most crucial times of development and learning.
Screenings not only help ophthalmologist provide vision correcting lenses but they also test for a number of other issues that could occur in your body.
Here are just a few they could catch early on:
Aneurysm, Brain Tumor, Diabetes, Heart Disease, High-blood pressure, High cholesterol, Lyme Disease, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Stroke, Vitamin A Deficiency
Intervention
What’s the most basic form of blindness correction? Refractive Errors- where the light is not focused on the back of the eye properly, resulting in a blurred image.
Glasses, a powerful tool for social and economic development and personal well-being can be easily attained with todays technology and resources.
Vision Saving Surgeries
Preventative eye surgeries are some of the most cost effective and help reduce poverty by increasing productivity.
Common surgeries that if left untreated will lead to blindness:
Congenital Cataracts, Strabismus, Amblyopia (Lazy Eye), Pediatric Ptosis (Drooping Eyelid) and ROP
Some of these surgeries take about 15-45 mins under general anesthesia and create a result that lasts a lifetime.
